who’s Manny’s Pale Ale gleaned the most votes for the Best Brewer Award!

Manny’s is described as, “A careful selection of Northwest hops, premium barley, and our unique yeast give this ale a rich and complex malty middle with a snappy hop finish. It’s truly a micro that finishes crisp, clean, and smooth.”

Georgetown Porter (many know it by another name) also received a large number of votes, contributing to Georgetown’s Best Brewer title. Description, “This is an exceptionally flavorful medium bodied porter. We use tons of Chocolate, Munich, and Roasted Malt, then blend it with Centennial and Northern Brewer hops to create what we’d like to call Roasted Chocolaty Goodness. Mmm.. porter.”

Taking the Best Non-Beer category is Fox Barrel’s Pear Cider!

About the pear cider, “This delicately balanced cider is like biting into a ripe pear. The hand crafted subtlety of this 100% natural beverage pays homage to finer French ciders. Our remarkably versatile Pear Cider is consistently awarded gold medals at national and regional competitions.” Apparently Rails to Ales Brewfest tasters agree, as the long lines and being the first keg of the day to blowout attest!

Giving these guys a real run for their money were Iron Horse Brewery from Ellensburg, Deschutes Brewery from Portland, and Kona Brewing Co. from Honolulu.

We also have a sincere apology we were asked to convey from the owner of Alpine Brewing Co. out of Oroville, WA for not being able to attend this year’s Brewfest due to a back injury just days before the event. He was very disappointed as he was looking forward to visiting with brewfest fans again. This year’s champs better watch out next year as Alpine’s brand new Hefeweizen took best of show in Leavenworth earlier this year!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTH CLE ELUM, WA – Feb. 2, 2010 — The Cascade Rail Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the historic Milwaukee Road rail line in Washington State, has announced they will be hosting their third annual Rails To Ales Brewfest at the Depot in South Cle Elum, Washington on July 10, 2010.

“Brewfest Twenty-Ten” will feature more breweries and more beers, while remaining a smaller venue with ticket sales limited to the first 1,500 beer fans. Sixteen regional breweries will be pouring samples of 2-3 of their finest brews in the unique setting of the Ironhorse State Park’s Milwaukee Road Depot and Railyard in South Cle Elum, WA. (Check www.RailsToAlesBrewfest.com for updates to the brewery list and entertainment.) Live bands, two wineries, food vendors and prizes will once again round out the festivities.

When asked “What would you tell friends and family about the Brewfest event and location?” 2009 survey results included: “I really enjoy the low key atmosphere. It really seems to be people genuinely interested in the beer and having a fun safe time,” and “Great time in lovely Eastern Washington weather and a good chance to meet brewers from some breweries and learn about the history of trains through the area,” and “It sounded like enough fun this year I invited 2 out of state friends to attend. Will do it again next year.”

The event raises funds for the Cascade Rail Foundation’s ongoing maintenance of the Milwaukee Road Depot and Railyard, which they helped Washington State Parks renovate from the ramshackle dilapidated building to its original condition. The Depot now houses a museum displaying Milwaukee road relics and memorabilia, and The Depot Cafe, hailing back to the old “Beanery” eatery still remembered by long-time residents. The group’s next ambitious project, also in conjunction with Washington State Parks, will be to tackle the renovation of the large brick sub-station building on the grounds into an expanded museum. Event chairman Brian Lee said, “Anyone interested in helping with their efforts is invited to ask about brewfest sponsorship and volunteering opportunities.”
