There’s a tear in our beer … 2013 RTA Brewfest is CANCELLED

After a considerable deliberation, the Cascade Rail Foundation has decided that we will not be putting on the Rails to Ales Brewfest in 2013. After two years in a row of just breaking even and the need for cash to complete the purchase of the 5057 locomotive, we’ve decided it’s not within our financial means to take on the Brewfest this year. We want to say “Thank You” to everyone for your support during the 5 years of the event! We especially want to thank all of the volunteers who have worked so hard over the years to put this great event together. Keep your eyes on this website and Facebook page…. We may be back bigger and better in 2014 if there’s enough support!! (Contact us if you would like to see it come back.) Cheers!!

2 Years Running – Best Brewer Award goes to … ICICLE BREWING COMPANY!

CONGRATULATIONS ICICLE BREWING COMPANY OF LEAVENWORTH, WA!

Last year, their Bootjack IPA took top honors at the 2011 Rails to Ales Brewfest. This year, Icicle Brewing has come through victorious again with their Khaos Kolsch gleaning the most People’s Choice votes. They describe Khaos Kolsch as, “A crisp yet smooth straw-colored ale, with a medium-light body. A delicately balanced beer showcasing subtle fruit flavors and aromas paired with a subdued maltiness. Styled after the ale of West-Central Germany, where the town of Cologne (Köln) is the home of Kölsch beer. In a country known for its lagers, this golden ale is a complex, yet subtle treat. Served in a traditional German crafted tall, narrow 200ml glass called a “Stange” or “pole”. ABV: 5.0% IBU: 21 OG: 11.7°P FG: 2.3°P”

“In 2001, we (Oliver, Pamela Brulotte and our children Gabrielle, Joshua & Elise) were fortunate enough to move to Leavenworth, Washington. Icicle Brewing Company voted 2011 BEST BREWER AWARD!

By a wide margin, newcomer to our Brewfest Icicle Brewing Company out of neighboring Leavenworth, WA walked away with the most 2011 Rails to Ales Brewfest People’s Choice votes for their … drumroll please … “Bootjack IPA”!

They describe the brew as, “Intense hop flavors and aroma are smoothly balanced in this medium bodied amber ale. With citrusy floral hop notes and a sweet-malty undertone, this American IPA is an amber beer dominated by rich Yakima grown hops. You will smell the hops, taste the hops, and feel the hops. Served in an American crafted traditional 16oz. pint glass. ABV: 6.5% • IBU: 60 OG: 15.7°P • FG: 3.8°P.”
